FAQs

  • That’s completely okay. You don’t need to have a clear goal or story; just bring whatever feels present for you, and we’ll begin from there.

  • Counsellors in private practice aren’t currently eligible to offer Medicare rebates or accept Mental Health Care Plans. Sessions are paid for privately, meaning you don’t need a referral to book or to commit to a set number of sessions. This allows us to work at a pace that suits you, without the pressure of a limited session block.

  • Each session provides a safe and confidential environment to explore whatever challenges or feelings you are experiencing. You do not need to have everything figured out or know exactly what to say. Sessions progress at your pace, focusing on what feels most important to you at the time.

  • No referral is required. You can contact me directly whenever you feel ready to begin counselling.

  • The frequency of sessions varies for each individual. Some find weekly appointments helpful, while others prefer fortnightly or more occasional visits. Together, we can determine a suitable schedule that best supports your needs and goals description

What to expect in a Counselling Session.

If you have never attended counselling before, it’s natural to wonder what the experience will be like. Here is an overview to help you feel more comfortable about what to expect:

  • Confidential and Secure Setting
Counselling sessions are conducted in a private and confidential environment. All information you share remains strictly between you and your counsellor, except in situations where there are concerns about your safety or the safety of others; these exceptions will be clearly explained during your initial session. This commitment to confidentiality provides a safe space for you to openly explore your thoughts and emotions without fear of judgment.

  • Pacing and Focus
There is no pressure to have all the answers or to speak about everything right away. Sessions move at a pace that feels right for you. I will listen and support you in focusing on what feels most important or relevant at each stage.

  • Structure of a Session
Typically, a session lasts about 50 minutes to an hour. It often begins with a brief check-in about how you have been since your last visit, followed by exploring current concerns, emotions, or situations you want to understand better.

  • Collaboration
Counselling is a collaborative process. I will work with you to set goals that align with your needs, and you can discuss what techniques or approaches feel most helpful throughout your journey.
